Course details:

Course Aim: This course prepares candidates for the role of a clinical documentation specialist (CDS). It equips participants with the essential foundational skills to excel as a CDS. This training emphasises the critical role of accurate documentation in improving patient outcomes, enhancing the integrity of healthcare data, and ensuring that hospitals are funded reflective of their patient complexity.

Format: The virtual course will run over 5 days, with 4 hours of learning per day. The intensive program covers the following modules:

How to effectively establish and sustain a CDI program

KPI’s and measuring success of the CDI program

Clinician engagement - delivering a consistent CDI message

Classification and coding from a CDS perspective

Activity-based funding fundamentals as they relate to a CDS

Undertaking a concurrent review of the medical record

Ethical documentation query writing

The program includes an immersive CDS curriculum that is:

Clinician-led

Structured and interactive

Designed exclusively for individuals

Additional resources will be provided to supplement your learning, preparing you to sit the Level 1 CCDS certification assessment.

Dates: The next available course will run from 8th - 12th December 2025. Details of further course dates will released soon. Spaces for this program are strictly limited.
Course eligibility: All health professionals passionate about CDI and looking to expand their career including nurses, clinicians, Health Information Managers, Clinical Coders, and allied health professionals.

Attendance: Participants must complete 100% of the live virtual sessions to complete the course and receive the course certificate.

Certification: At the conclusion of the course, candidates will be eligible to apply to become a Level 1 Certified CDS. To attain this internationally recognised certification, applicants must pass a 130-question multiple choice examination.

Cost: Course fee is $5,995 + GST. Register by Friday 7th November to receive a 20% discount.
The course fee includes all training materials and resources, membership to the CDIA Community, and Level 1 CCDS application fees. Participants have the option to customise their training with on ward CDS immersion and ongoing coaching & development.
